Mon Nouveau Bercail was born out of an observation followed by a reflection from the founding administrators on the situation of newcomers who have chosen Quebec as their host land. In search of better well-being, they often find themselves in financial precariousness upon arrival, combined with their inability to orient themselves properly due to isolation and limited knowledge of provincial institutions.
Assisting these newcomers in their many settlement procedures is thus a necessity. Since October 2015, Mon Nouveau Bercail has responded by providing them with furniture, essential items, and other useful goods. Thanks to this initiative, the newcomers accompanied by MNB are more successful in their settlement and can approach their integration with greater optimism and serenity.
The distribution of furniture is not only beneficial to newcomers. This activity also fits into an environmental preservation dynamic. Indeed, giving a second life to collected furniture and other objects helps reduce bulky waste in our cities. Mon Nouveau Bercail is very committed to this aspect of its mission and works on it with determination.
In addition to collecting and distributing furniture and other useful items, the organization also serves as a contact point for supporting newcomers throughout their settlement and integration process. Since its creation, Mon Nouveau Bercail has continuously guided newcomers knocking on its door to the various available resources. This guidance helps dozens of families each year identify the right institutions capable of meeting their needs.
The help provided by Mon Nouveau Bercail is concentrated in the boroughs of Côte-des-Neiges and Ville Saint-Laurent. Due to its proximity, MNB also serves the Town of Mount Royal. The organizational development strategy used by Mon Nouveau Bercail demonstrates the appreciation of its clientele for the service provided. MNB relies on the organizational development strategy called "global approach." It involves using recognized and proven methods in the economic and social sectors. By applying this approach, MNB is able to identify the real needs of its clientele and the success factors of its intervention approach (understanding the reality, adapting the intervention to identified needs, developing a community anchor to establish its reputation). Today, the results speak for themselves.
Thanks to its approach, MNB quickly positioned itself as an important and even essential player with its clientele and in the field. Over the past ten years, the organization has supported several dozen newcomer families in their settlement and integration process. It has developed more than 40 partnerships with business, community, and government institutions. In terms of governance, the solidity of its internal administrative structures is recognized by its partners and approved by local elected officials. Its rapid rise has earned it several appearances in local newspapers, and its founder, Garbens Jean, made the front page of the Mont-Royal Express newspaper to highlight the contribution of Mon Nouveau Bercail to the community. In recent years, Mon Nouveau Bercail continues to shine through its involvement and dedication.
Various significant moments in the life of the organization confirm this success with its clientele and the community in general. Some of these include: its recognition by the Côte-des-Neiges Community Development Cooperation (CDC) and by the Saint-Laurent Social Organizations Committee (COSSL). From its appearance in the socio-community ecosystem, partners immediately recognized it as an important member and partner with newcomers and in the field. Additionally, Mon Nouveau Bercail is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as a charitable organization and is able to issue tax receipts. Thanks to its commitment, Mon Nouveau Bercail continues to enjoy an excellent reputation with its target population.
